Note According to the book "David Wade: A Texas Pioneer", written by Houston Wade; published by LaGrange Journal, 1943:

"An entry in the old minute book of the Fayetteville Masonic Lodge reads as follows: 'Petition for Initiation and Membership from J. R. Wade, age 40, Farmer, Fayetteville. Referred to a committee consisting of J. B. Anderson, Umbleton Gregory and Peter Clawson.' This entry is dated Saturday, October 22, 1859. So if Mr. J. R. Wade was 40 years of age at this time he is bound to have been born in the year 1819; two years after the marriage of his parents."
"It is a fact that Joshua Robinson Wade did not like his name for the reason that it was generally abbreviated to 'Josh', which was too suggestive to suit him; accordingly he changed his name to John and is usually shown in the records as John R. Wade, and is so shown in the records of the Texas Veterans Association, First Class, of which he was a member. At home in Fayetteville, he went under the name of Robinson Wade; he was willing to be called anything but 'Josh'."
"Joshua Robinson Wade was 17 years of age at the time Samuel Houston, in his headlong flight for the Louisiana border, passed near the Wade home. The fact is very evident that he attached himself to the company of Captain Peyton R. Splane. This organization consisted of 30 privates and 4 officers; the only other man from Fayette County in this company was William Hodge."
"In 1858, Joshua Robinson Wade made application to the Commissioners of claims for his 640 acres of bonus land as a Veteran of San Jacinto, and he made strenuous efforts to prove his claim that he was a part of the camp guard detail left at Harrisburg on April 20, 1836. We will now give part of the testimony presented in the form of affidavits and records of the General Land Office, Austin:
In the deposition of his father, David Wade, the statement is made that Joshua Robinson Wade left his home in the Spring of 1836 to join the army, and on his return home he told his father that he had been detailed to guard the baggage, that he believed that his son had guarded the baggage because he had told him so.
Joel Walter Robison testified that he had known Joshua Robinson Wade 20 years; said that Joshua had told him that he had guarded the baggage on April 20th and 21st, 1836, but that he did not know that he did from his own knowledge.
John Breeding, the first Sheriff of Fayette County, was a sick man in the camp of which Joshua Robinson Wade claims to have guarded, and he admitted that Wade told him that he had guarded the camp but this Mr. Breeding refused to testify that he had seen him there. He did say, however, that he had known J. R. Wade since 1834.
The final results were that Mr. J. R. Wade failed to prove to the satisfaction of the Court of Claims that he had ever been a member of the company of Captain Splane or that he had been detailed to guard the sick and the baggage left at Harrisburg on April 20 and 21, 1836, and he was denied his 640 acres of bonus land; however, he was allowed his 320 acres as pay for his services in the army. This 320 acres is located right near the old Wade original home and Joshua Robinson Wade lies buried on this ground now. His grave is, or was, under a large live oak tree."
"In the Spring of 1842, came the big Mexican scare and then the Vasquez Raid in March. Both Joshua Robinson Wade and his younger brother, William Wyatt Wade, age 20, promptly turned out and became members of Captain Nicholas Mosby Dawson's company, but on the retreat of Vasquez from Texas, our soldiers returned home and were disbanded."
"During the same year, on September 11, when General Adrian Woll swooped down and captured San Antonio again, these two boys once more turned out to help repel this new Mexican threat. This time they served under Captain William Mosby Eastland. Neither of these two men seem to have remained in the army to become a part of the Somervell Expedition or participate in the Battle of Mier."
"As proof of our statement given above concerning the service rendered Texas by these two Wade boys, we submit the following paper now on file in the Texas State Library, Austin:
Fayetteville, Texas
September 23, 1854

'This is to certify that I served in the Company of Captain Dawson in the Spring of 1842 against the Mexicans when they invaded and took San Antonio. Also in the same year I served in Captain Eastland's company against the Mexicans when they invaded and took possession of San Antonio under General Woll.
(signed) A. L. D. Moore

'We do solemnly swear that we are acquainted personally with the above named A. L. D. Moore, and that we served with him in the companies above named and that the above mentioned A. L. D. Moore is the identical that served in the campaigns.
(signed) J. R. Wade
Wm. W. Wade

'Sworn to before me, a Notary Public, in and for Fayette County, this 23rd day of September, 1854.
(signed) P. J. Shaver
N. P. F.C. "

"It was just about this time that the two Wade boys ceased to be able to agree and a separation of the family took place. The older, J. R. Wade, seems to have taken unto himself a wife soon after his last army experience, and while we do not know for sure just what the family difference was, still we have a strong suspicion that the new Mrs. Wade did not like her father-in-law. We do know for sure a fact that from this time on David Wade made his home with his younger son."

"During 'the days of '49', our people like the rest, went hogwild with the gold fever."
"The fact that the Wades stayed at home did not prevent them taking part in the excitement, and family tradition has it that the elder son saw his opportunity to put one over on his younger brother by selling him a gold mine. The older boy secured some fragments of brass and copper and with a file reduced them to 'dust', then he dug a hole and planted this 'dust' in it and then rushed to the old home and told his younger brother that he had discovered a gold mine and would sell him a half of the interest for so much. Our grandfather 'bit' and parted with all of his cash on hand, and was then given the 'horse laugh' by his own brother. This little incident in high finance did not improve the family feeling, and we have no knowledge of any further intercourse between them."

Joshua also went by the names John R. Wade, J.R. Wade, or Robinson (Roberson) Wade...apparently he did not like to be called "Josh".

According to the book "David Wade: A Texas Pioneer", the following information is given regarding William Wyatt WADE:

"In statue he was about 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighed around 110 pounds during the roasting-ear season. He was born in Kentucky on October 25, 1822, and was married at least twice. The name of his first better half is unknown to us and , strange to say, our Bible names no mention of her."
"By his first wife William Wyatt Wade is bound to have had at least two children that reached their majority, the name of one was Notley Wade, and he married a Miss Julia de Lassaulx. The name of the girl I do not know, all that I remember is that she was referred to in our family as 'Sis', and married a man by the name of Gregory who, we think, was a son of old Dr. D. C. Gregory."
"The second and most important wife, (that is important from our standpoint), of W. W. Wade was Miss Elizabeth Madison, who was born in Mississippi, November 3, 1833. It has often been told to us how grandfather made the trip back to the old State for his bride and about the hardships the couple endured on their return honeymoon trip. Their marriage occurred on September 10, 1854; the bride was 21 and the groom was 32. This new Mrs. Wade was taller by far than her husband and in time came to weigh just about again as much."

"To W. W. Wade and Elizabeth Madison was born two sons, the older, David L. Wade, was born January 1, 1858, but never reached manhood; he was accidentally killed by falling on a picket fence. The younger son was our father, Nicholas Tyler Wade, born December 10, 1861. He was named for Nicholas Tyler Ware who lived where Halstead now is."
"William Wyatt Wade was a Mason. He first joined Florida Lodge No. 46, at Round Top. Later he became a charter member of Fayetteville No. 240."

According to the book "An Early History of Fayette County" written by Leonie Rummel Weyand and Houston Wade:

"Roll of the Fayetteville Home Guard, Class No. 2 Head Quarters at Fayetteville", entry # 18: "Wade, Joshua Robinson"; entry # 24: "Wade, Wm. Wyatt".
"List of Charter Members of Fayetteville Lodge No. 240, of Fayetteville, Texas, January 29, 1859. And early Masons:" The eighth entry is: "Wade, William Wyatt"."

Note Her name has been found as several: Elvira Ellis; Evelina Ellis; Everline Ellis.
She probably was married previously, as she has 2 children with the last name of Ellis.

Marriage Notes for DAVID WADE and EVELINA ELLIS:
According to the book "David Wade: A Texas Pioneer", regarding the marriage of David and Evelina:
"Now, sad to relate, David Wade's honeymoon seems to be over, and his matrimonial venture is about to be shipwrecked. This we know from this item printed in the want ad column of the paper:
'NOTICE! All persons are hereby warned not to trust my wife, Elvira Wade, or Credit her in any way, as I am determined not to pay any debts she may contract.
David Wade"
Fayetteville, May 16, 1853"

In our Bible, right underneath the marriage date of David and Elvira Wade, is a line that is scratched out, but underneath that is shown the date February 14, 1855, and we venture to say that that is the date this romance ended, either by death or otherwise.1
