MRS. L. de L. Tuttle Eternal sleep came to Mrs. L. de L. Tuttle, mother of Judge George Willrich, Tuesday forenoon. For several months, due to her advanced age, Mrs. Tuttle, ever interested in literary work, brilliant of mind and concerned about the community's people, had remained at the home of her son, where her every comfort was provided.
Our brief reference to the departed invites the interest of one who enjoyed her intimate acquaintance, to whom we assign the duty of paying a tribute to a good woman.
Wednesday morning at the Sacred Heart church Rev. Geo. Beberich held mass of requiem, and Wednesday afternoon the citizenship of LaGrange attended the obsequies at the new cemetery.1 |

1861 Nov 19
Anstaett, Father J(oseph) Galveston, (Texas)
to Archbishop (John Mary Odin, C.M.) (New Orleans, Louisiana)
Many will assist in spirit at next Sunday's ceremony when (Odin) receives the pallium. Only the impossibility of the times and the place hold him back. (James P.) Nash, (H.) De St. Cyr, and Father (Louis C.M.) Chambodut are of the same sentiment. The (Ursulines) will pray for him in a special way on that day. Day after tomorrow there will be two more novices: Miss( ) de Lassaulx and Miss ( ) Dallmer. John Spann believes that Carrie Spann will be able to enter in a little while. Poor oldMrs. ( ) Dirks has been sick for some time; she speaks often of (Odin). Her son's children are beginning to come more regularly to church, instruction, and school. In regard to the school he has good news. Mr. ( ) Duvernois is no longerteaching. He has suffered much because of Duvernois who did everything he could, innocently he believes, to demolish the school. He became adjutant-major of a German battalion when General (Paul O.) Hébert wished to take it into service. He received his commission at the end of October and at the beginning of November Anstaett went to work visiting the German families and inviting them to send their children to the college. All have replied to the call. He advised the Brothers (of the Christian Doctrine) to take them at all costs. (Odin) no doubtknows that Brother Joachim, (F.S.C.) has opened a school at Houston. At the end of a certain time the influence of his young people is going to make a great number of others gravitate to the same center. In regard to the hospital he does not venture to say anything to General Hébert seeing that Father Chambodut has a written contract with Colonel (John C.) Moore. In January Chambodut has to renew it; then it can be claimed with much more force that Moore has still not done what he promised to do especially in regard to a fence so that the horses, cows, and other animals ravage the convent garden. Lately he said Mass for a good number of young Germans from Frelsburg enlisted in the army. William Baümeris among them.
P.S. Mrs. Chapuy has no other consolation than to learn news of (Odin).

Clemens Joseph Auguste Lassaulx1
Male, #38413, b. 1840

Birth | 1840 | Clemens was born 1840 in Koblenz, Rhineland, Kingdom of Prussia, German Confederation .1 |
Marriage - no date | | He married Carmen Garza Ortiz. I have no information on the date of the marriage.1 |
Birth of Daughter | 1874 | His daughter Clementina was born in 1874 in Camargo, Tamaulipas, Mexico .1 |
Birth of Daughter | December 28, 1874 | His daughter Agnes was born on December 28, 1874 in Camargo, Tamaulipas, Mexico .1 |
Death - no date | | Clemens died on an unknown date in Camargo, Tamaulipas, Mexico .1 |
Name Variation | | Clemens Joseph Auguste Lassaulx was also known as Clemente.1 |
Note | | Clemens emigrated to Carmargo, Tamaulipas, Mexico during or shortly after the American Civil War and married Carmen de la Garza Ortiz, a woman from a long-standing Mexican family from Spain, there in Camargo, where he is buried.
It is believed that in 1861, he graduated from the Rutersville Military Academy, Rutersville, Fayette County, Texas when he learned that three of his sisters had entered the convent of the Ursulines in Galveston (Anna, Mary and Julia de Lassaulx), which greatly upset him (he had heard stories of his de Lassaulx aunts having done the same and he did not want his sisters to follow in his aunts' footsteps). He went to Galveston and foricbly removed them and set fire to the convent. Two of his sisters returned to the convent, and Anna became Sister St. Aloysia and Mary become Mother St. Augustine. This must have caused a great deal of trouble for him since he quickly thereafter left for Europe, which explains why he did not serve in the Civil War.
He returned to Texas after the War and traveled to Mexico, where he is believed to have served as Vice Consul for the United States in Camargo.1 |
