J. F. PERKINS

I will be 81 next September if I live till then. I was born in Buckingham
County, Virginia, went to Missouri, when young and lived there until 1873,
when I came to Marion. I was here and enlisted in Capt. OlmsteadHOLMAN's
Company in the Black Hawk War. Of that company, Dick WARD and myself are
the only survivors I know of. I married Miss Sarah TARPLEY at BainbridgeJul
16, 1837. She died in 1878. Uncle Jack talks of incidents of early life
with more precision than matters of more recent date.

The Leader, published at
Marion, reported this on 2 Apr 1896:

A.J. Perkins, late of Pinckneyville, was buried last Monday in thecemetery
in this city. He had long lived in this city. Death resulted from a fall.
---------
On 15 Mar 1896, The Leader had printed this, picked up from the
Pinckneyville Republican:

J.F. Perkins, grandfather of Jack Cabiness, an old respected gentleman 85
years old, met with an accident yesterday morning that, while we hope itmay
not prove fatal, will probably confine him to his bed for some time tocome.
He lived with his grandson, Mr. Cabiness, in the west part of town and was
on his way to Kaiser's butcher shop in the east part of town. He slippedand
fell near Schultz & Son Lumber Yard, breaking his hip.
