Tharp unless she was adopted by them between 1880-1890. -------------------------------------------------- Author: Carole North Living: 18 Feb 2003 I am trying to find out the origins of my grandmother, Ella Tharp North (Jan 22, 1872-May 10, 1892). She married Thomas Jefferson North about 1891. Buried in the Bagdad Cem. Franklin Co. is Ransom G. Tharp 1853-1934, his wife Mary E. 1854-1908, daughter Annie Price 1876-1890 along with several other Tharps. I believe this is the family of Ella who is buried in Mt.Carmel Bap Cem. but I cannot prove it. Many of my ancestors originated in Shelby Co. Since Tharp is such an uncommon name in KY, I thought you might have information to shed some light on this mystery. 1880 census Franklin Co. Ky Bald Knob dist. shows my grandmother Nancy Ellen Peyton age 8 (b.Jan.23, 1872) living with grandparent William Peyton. In Nov. 1890 she married my grandfather Thomas Jefferson North. But her name was now Nancy Ellen Tharp. Wlliam Peyton was the bondsman so I know it is the same person. On May 2, 1892 'Ella or Ellie' gave birth to my father. On May 10, 1892,she died and is buried in the Mt. Carmel Cem. as Ella North. So, how did her name change from Peyton to Tharp? Was she an 18 year old widow? Who were her parents? --------------------------------------------------------- Bagdad Cemetery, Shelby - From Bagdad go south on Ky. 395 for .1 mile.Cemetery on west side of the highway. Not copied. The Peoples Bank ofBagdad keeps the records.1 | |
