| Note-Shackelford | He William was wounded during the Civil War , receiving a shot in the leg atFort Donalson and a wound in the arm at Chicamauga. He served in Co. G.of the 17th Ky, under Col. McHenry in Sherman's army. Although a Unionsoldier, he was a lifelong Democrat. Bill lived in Nelson Co. all the early part of his life, but in 1874 hemoved to Buffalo, Ky. and lived there 8 years; then he moved to theArmstead Creal Place east of Hodgenville, later to the farm now know asthe W.T. Shaw farm, near Hodgenville, Ky. Bill then moved to Gleanings,this county where he resided until 1919, when he moved to New Hope. He was a devout member of the Cathilic Church and died duly fortifiedwith all the sacraments of the Church. He had an unusually wideacquaintance in Larue and Nelson Counties and as many friends asacquaintances, Those in Larue Co. remember him as a splendid neighbor,genial, generous, and pleasant natured, He was a man of a high order ofcitizenship and perhaps few have lived to pass the four score mark withas little friction in the world as he. Hundreds of friends regret his departure, but know he has only passedfrom this life to one better, where the old grow young again. The above information was copied from a newspaper clipping which was sentto Sister Rose Frances Mahoney by her Uncle Bill's grandson, MatthewMcDonald, (Annie Mahoney's son). Matthew also contributed much data onhis own family.
