Note-ShackelfordMatthias Yount Source:

A letter written by Isabelle Yount dated July 6, 1954, who had done considerable research on the Yount family, states that 'We find in Maryland Historical Society the record of the marriage of John, son of Matthias Jundt and through research we have found that John, son of Matthias lived in Bedford, Pennsylvania.'

Matthais Jundt left a letter behind to their family saying that they were leaving the country but did not explain why, saying only that they could not stay, that all they left behind should now belong to those left behind and that they would write a long letter to explain themselves later. They were very sad about leaving and did not want their family to think ill of them for it.

Researchers say these Jundt children went to Frederickstown, (nowWinchester) Virginia, in Frederick Co. and that Hans Adam and Matthais later settled in the Bedford, PA area. Their sister Anna Magdalena, known as Madle, and considered well to do, married in 1756 or before to Jacob Pfau who had become a widower shortly after coming to America. Jacob Pfau was also from Benken, a saddler by trade and an emigrant of 1749.1

Note-ShackelfordAnna Magdalena Yount The four Jundt children including Anna Magdalena, left Benken, Amt.Muchenstein, Canton Basel, Switzerland secretly because of persecution bythe government at that time. Citizens were constantly being imprisoned, tortured, or banished from the country. Those caught leaving the countrywithout government permission were given the same punishments. Housingand food were increasingly hard to come by. Still the decision to leavetheir home for a strange new land must have been a very difficult one tomake. One account of the trip from Switzerland to Philadelphia is givenin a letter by a man named Frid Schor to his brother-in-law. The tripfrom Basel to Philadelphia had taken almost a year, 25 weeks: 3 weeksdown the Rhine, 2 waiting for a ship in Holland, 1 across to Cowes, 4waiting for another ship there, and 15 more to Philadelphia.

Matthais Jundt left a letter behind to their family saying that they wereleaving the country but did not explain why, saying only that they couldnot stay, that all they left behind should now belong to those leftbehind and that they would write a long letter to explain themselveslater.
