Biography Harvey BOHANNON was born in Shelby County November 3, 1829, the fourth son of Henry and Philadelphia (Gale) BOHANNON. Henry was born in Woodford County, a son of John (a native of Maryland) and Helen (Cook) BOHANNON. He was county commissioner of the circuit court, or, in other words, master in chancery; was sheriff two years, magistrate several years, represented the county in the Legislature one term, and was also deputy county surveyor. His wife was born in Woodford County, daughter of Robert F. and Elizabeth (Wood) Gale, both natives of Virginia. Robert F. Gale was a soldier in the Revolutionary war. By trade he was a saw mill man, also built flatboats, which his brother would load with produce and take to New Orleans. He died in 1847. Harvey BOHANNON has always been engaged in farming. He was county surveyor for twelve years and does more or less surveying still. He is also engaged in the saw mill business on a small scale. May 31, 1849, he married Scynthia Scroggin, of Shelby County, a daughter of Sam and Malinda (Miles) Scroggin. Three children were born to their union, one of whom is living, J. G., who is located at Greenville, Ky., engaged in the practice of medicine. He is married to Manday M. Hoyden, and has three children: George H., Joe H. and Grace. Our subject's first wife died in 1872, and October 31, 1873, he married Scynthia Gale, of Shelby County, daughter of J. W. and Mary A. (Crook) Gale. Two children blessed this union--one living, Harvey Jr.

The father was a farmer and surveyor, a son of Henry BOHANNON, who married Philadelphia Gale, of French origin. Henry came to Kentucky from Maryland in a very early day; he was a farmer and held the offices of surveyor, justice and sheriff in Shelby County. He had been married three times, and during his latter years was secretary and treasurer of Georgetown College about twelve years; he was a Baptist. The mother of our subject was the daughter of Samuel and Malinda (Miles) Scroggin of Scotch and English extraction; her father was a farmer and an early settler of Kentucky. Dr. BOHANNON was reared on a farm and received a classical education at Georgetown College. He commenced the study of medicine with Dr. John R. Hall, of Georgetown, Ky; graduated in medicine from the University of Louisville in the spring of 1874, and the same year located at Georgetown. In 1878, he moved to Greenville, where he has since practiced with success. He was married September 2, 1879, to A.M. Haden, of Muhlenberg County, Ky., a daughter of G.W. and Lucy R. (Slaughter) Haden. This union is blessed with the birth of George Harvey and Joseph Haden BOHANNON. Dr. and Mrs. BOHANNON are members of the Christian Church. He is a Mason.
