(65) Memucan Hunt was the first Treasurer of NOrth Carolina, and was call "Muke" Hunt by his familiars. He was also a member of the provincial Congress of North Carolina. His old home in Williamsboro was sold by one of his sons to the "rich" Hamilton Family, who named it "Burnside" after their English home. The family genealogist has only furnished us with the names of two of his sons: (1) William Hunt and
(2) Dr. Thomas Hunt.

Memucan Hunt was Treasurer of North Carolina during the Revolutionary War, 1777 - 1778.

Memucan Hunt was Entry Taker for Granville County, North Carolina for about a year in February 1778.

His will was proven in Granville County, North Carolina and is recorded in Will Book 7, Page 1.
Dates from "A Record of the Howard & Hunt Families" by B. A. Howard, who also states his grandfather Hunt "lived on Grassy Creek".1

Will of Robert Wade
In the name of God Amen. I Robert Wade, being sick and weak in body but of perfect mind and memory do call into mind the mortality of man knowing there is a time appointed for ... once to die to give and bequeath my soul to the almighty God who gave it and my body to be buried in a decent like manner at the descretion of my Executors. Touching my worldly affairs which it has pleased the Almight God to bestow on me. I shall give and bequeath as follows (viz) In the first place I allow all my just debts to be paid. In the next place I bequeath to my loving wife Rebecah my tract of land where I now live her life time then to be equally divided between my two sons, Robert Wade (can't read word) and my son Charles Wade. I further bequeath to my wife Rebekah five negroes by the names of Elijah and (can't read name), Edmon and Wenny and Hanner, also a girl by the name of Verny. Also should there arise any increases from said negroes after her death to leave it in what manner she thinks should be most proper amongst my children as I wish them to be equally divided after her death. I further wish her to have a sufficient quantity of all (can't read word) my stock to support her in a comfortable manner. I further bestow all household property for her to dispose of as she may think proper. I also bequeath to my son, Downey Wade, his heirs, three negroes now in his possession; William, Rachel and Samuel and the tract of land where he now lives which I have made him a deed to. I also bequeath to my son, Robert Wade (can't read word); three negroes, Squire, Mary and (can't make out name). I also bequeath to my daughter, Peggy, her heirs, three negroes; Daniel, Amy and Nancy??. I also give to my Son, Charles three negroes; Anderson, Esabel and Lewis, son of (can't make out name). I also give to my daughter Patsey Wade, her heirs of three negroes; Lucy, Henry and Walker. I also give to my Daughter, Polly, three negroes to her self; Abram, Rose and Amy. I also give and bequeath to my Daughter Rebeckah three negroes by the name of Molly, (can't read name) and Isaac. Also the above named Verny left to my wife Rebeckah after her death to be the property of my youngest daughter Rebeckah and further wish two negroes not yet named black smith Lewis and Thomas to still remain and work for the of my wife Rebeckah and above name Children until my youngest Daughter, Rebeckah becomes of age then to be equally divided amongst my seven children; Downey, Robert, Charles, Peggy, Patsy, Polly and Rebeckah and after paying all my just debts are paid if any property left and not named I wish for there to be a equal division of the same amongst all my children. My will and desire are that my beloved wife Rebeckah and three sons, Downey, Robert and Charles shall be my Executors to pay all my just debts and settle my affairs then the remainder of my estate to be equally divided among my (can't read two or three words) children. This my last Will and Testament given under my hand and seal this 12th November 1814.

Know all men by these presents that I, Robert Wade of the County of Granville & State of North Carolina for the consideration of the natural love and that I have toward my children and the further consideration of four hundred pounds etc. ()??: to me in hand paid by James Downey Sen: The receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged (oath by these presents give grant bargain sell & confirm unto my Children that I have by my wife Rebecca Wade, two negroes to Each Child, in manner & form as followeth, to be under the age of twenty one years & taken out of the family of negroes given to my wife Rebecca Wade by her father James Downey since our ??? marriage together. Viz (?) I do by these presents convey in Manner & form as expressed in this Deed of Bargain & Sale, to my son Downey Wade, Negro Boy Will son of Hannah and girl Rachel daughter of Fanny, to my son Robert Wade Negro boy Elijah son of Hanner (sic) and girl Mary daughter of Fanny, to my son Charles Wade Negro Boy Anderson Son of Hanner & Girl Isbel daughter of Fanny. To my Daughter Peggy Wade, Negro boy Daniel and girl Oney daughter of Hanner, To my daughter Patsey Wade, Negro boy Henry son of Fanny and girl Lucy daughter of Hanner, to my Daughter Polly Wade, Negro boy Abram, son of Phillis, and Rose daughter of D?:and should my wife Rebecca Wade hereafter have more children by me, I do by these presents bind myself to give them Negroes in like manner and form as the above named children, all of which said children is to have & to hold and said negroes & increase to them their heirs & ?? should any of the above named Negroes die before the time arrives that the Child or Children gets possession of them it is agreed on and to be understood that they are to have one of equal value or as near as can be go to be taken out of said Familys of Negroes as above named and should any of my Children die without Lawfull Heir, not to include Husband & Wife as Heir, then their part of portion of said negroes is to be equally divided amongst the Surviving brothers & Sisters, and in case any of them should die before that time and leave children, then their children is to stand in the place of their deceased parent, in that Division this clause is not to be include Children that may be charged to any of my boys as beign base begoeen, nor let it be known that the above conveyed negroes is to remain in my possession until my said children arrives to Lawful age or marrys, and until the finishing of the Crop if either of the Casess happens after the first day of February, then my said Child or Children is to have the said negroe or negroes for their own proper use etc. To them their heirs, etc. as above conveyed, and I the said Robert Wade doth by these presents bind myself to ????? the above conveyed negroes to my said children as mentioned in this Deed of Conveyance by namde etc. against myself, my heirs and all or any person that may Claim by from or under me, them or any of them given under my hand and seal this 14th day of June 1805 in presents of J.C. I Scare Torian, of the County of Halifax, VA., do make this my last will and testament in manner and form following. Hereby revoking all other wills heretofore by me made.
Item 1st. It is my will and desire that my Executor herein after named shall first pay all my just debts out of any money or personal property not herein after disposed of that I may have at my death.
Item 2nd. To my son, Robert D. Torian the tract of land whereon I now live together will all other lands which I now have in the County of Halifax. The following slaves and other property to wit: George, a man,
Sam and his wife, Silvey, Drury, Joe, Martha and Ataline, also four choice horses, two yoke of oxen and wagon to him and his heirs forever.
Item 3rd. Daughter, Barbara Wade in addition to what I have given off to her the following slaves to wit: Washington, a young boy and Lewis, a man.
Item 4th. Grandson, William Parker and Daniel Parker, sons of my dec'd daughter, Margaret Parker, the following slaves, Jonas and George, a young boy and the some of $1000 each to them.
Item 5th. To daughter, Isabella Stanley, the following slaves to wit: Ransome and his wife, Walley, Rachal, Dinny, Tom, Carr, Elisah, a young lad, Ann, Elisha child and Ellen a suckling child to her and her heirs forever.
Item 6th. To my grandson, Robert W. Torian, son of my dec'd son Charles and the following slaves to wit: Julia and Emily, two young girles.
Item 7th. It is my will and desire that all my property not herein disposed of shall be sold and the money arising there from together with all other monies which I may have at my death after paying the two legacies of $1000 each to my two grandson, William Parker and Daniel Parker, shall be equally divided between my children and granchildren, 1/5 to Robert D. Torian, 1/5 to Barbara Wade, 1/5 to parker grandsons, 1/5 to Isabella Stanley and remaining 1/5 to grandson, Robert W. Torian.
Item 8th. It is my further will and desire that should my said grandson Robert W. Torian die leaving no issue lawfully begotten of his body that the property herein given to him shall come back as part of my Estate and be divided between my children and grandchildren in the same manner and proportions as I have directed.
Son, Robert D. Torian appointed Executor.
