My father was John G. Patterson of Ste Genevieve County. He died in Wayne County, Missouri, in 1877, age 63. My mother, Jane Andrews, was born at Andrew Farm in St. Francois County. Her father was Wm. H. Andrews. My mother died at East Bonne Terre, Missouri, age 82. I was ten years old when my father died, left my mother with five children: Maggie, myself, L.B., Jennie, and Minnie. My oldest sister, Etta, died in Texas, and Jennie was born in Texas, Minnie was born in Oregon. Bea married Ida Harris, Jennie married Wm. Stegall, and Minnie married Wm. Glen. Jennie and Wm. Stegall had noe child, Elmer Stegall, who now lives in Desloge (?), MO. I, McAnally A. Patterson, married Alice Covington. We raised 15 children, all living at present, all married. [He goes on to list all his children and their spouses, etc.] As far as my parents, [we] left Missouri when I was 2 years old. They went to Texas thru the Indian Territory, into Oregon, back to Missouri in Wayne County, traveled by wagon drawn by oxen, where my father died. My mother was left with 5 children and 2 oxen. I was ten years old. I hauled lumber with old Tom and Jerry [the oxen] for a living that winter. In March we came thru by wagon to St. Francois County, lost one oxen, lived wherever we could get a house. I worked for farmers for 25 cents a day. Couldn’t go to school. | Obituary | An obituary for Alice Louise Covington appeared. MRS. M. A. PATTERSON Alice Louise Covington Patterson, daughter of the late Josiah and Hulda Frazier Covington, was born in Ste. Genevieve County, Mo., on March 7, 1871, and passed away at her home in Farmington [St. Francois County], Mo., on April 5, 1950, at 1:00 a.m., following a short illness. At an early age she professed faith in Christ and at the time of her death was a member of the Aulsbury Chapel Church. She was a faithful Christian until her death. On December 31, 1888, she was united in marriage to McAnally Andrews Patterson, who survives. To this union, fifteen children were born, all of whom survive. She had fifty-one grandchildren, forty-nine surviving. Two preceded her in death in infancy and Elizabeth Waller Byington having passed away July 31, 1949. She is survived by 36 great-grandchildren. Grandma Patterson was a loving wife, mother and grandmother; a true friend and neighbor. She was loved by all who knew her. Funeral Services are to be held Friday at 2:00 p.m. at the Aulsbury Chapel Church. Interment in the Marvin Chapel Cemetery with Cozean Service.
