This 1870 census above is the last you ever hear of her onrecord as Catherine Hulett. My g-grandfather, Albert Shackelford marriesher in 1879. She dies in 1886 and date comes only because story has itthat my grandad was only 3 yrs. old when she died, thus 1886. AS FOR ALBERT AND CATHERINE'S MARRIAGE CERT. SAYING THAT THEY WEREMARRIED AT HER UNCLE JAMES HULETT'S HOUSE,---I CONSIDER THIS TO BE AMISTAKE BY THE PERSON SIGNING THE CERT. THIS THEORY IS SHARED WITH ME BYANOTHER HULETT RESEARCHER, DIANE NIELSON. DIANE ALSO BELIEVES IT POSSIBLE THAT CATHERINE WAS ADOPTED IN INDIANA BYJAMES AND COURTNEY SINCE THEY WERE 50 & 34 AT THE TIME OF HER BIRTH. THEYHAD BEEN MARRIED SINCE 1850 AND CATHERINE WAS BORN IN 1863- 13 YRS LATER.POSSIBLE THAT COURTNEY COULD NOT HAVE CHILDREN OR WAS TOO BUSY CARING FORJAMES'S CHILDREN BY HIS FIRST WIFE. (Could not find him in 1900 census). His mother died in 1886 when he was just 3 years old and father died between 1890 and 1894, as well as his step-brothers. Story has it he ran away from step-mother (Alice Crutcher-Sheets Shackelford) after much abuse and when about 11 years old and went to live with one of the Crutcher families. Note: Alice Crutcher and her siblings went to live with Granville Sheets when their mother married him aft the death oftheir father, and were later adopted by him and given the Sheets name. 1900--- 1903 James, marries Fannie Heppeard in Franklin County. They have Eva Mae in 1904. A son, James A. is born in 1906 Fannie dies two weeks before their one year, four months old son dies, leaving James with their tree year old dauaghter (Eva Mae) to care for. Fannie's sister, Sallie Heppeard becomes Eva Mae's guardian and caretaker while James makes a living. Sallie soon married Sam Skeen and they make a permanent home for Eva Mae Shackelford, their niece. She marries Alexander Smither late in life and helps to raise some of his children by his previous wife.
