The book on Church and Family Graveyards of Franklin Co. states thatAlice J. Shackelford was born 2/2/1863. No stone mentioned and it wasnot there when I visited the cemetery. Only a stone of Alice 'P ' (?)Duvall side by side with Albert & boys. Where is Catherine 'Kate'Hulett, Albert's first wife, my g-grandmother?

In the 1900 Franklin Co. Census Alice states that she was born in Jan. of1953.
=================
Alice marr'd Albert Shackelford in 1886. There is no 1890 censusavailable. By next census(1900) Alice & sister Millie are livingtogether. Milly is still single. Alice is a widow, as Albert has died aswell as the two boys. My grandfather, James W. Shackelford has run awayfrom Alice as she was cruel to him.
Here are the Census' in which I believe to be Alice J. Crutcher & Millywho were brought into Granville Sheets h/h with 2 other siblings due toSarah Jane McKendrick (their mother), being widowed & having her 4children with her. Is Martha Milly? (Compare age on 1860 & 1900 Censusbelow.)

------------------------------------
Albert was 24 and Alice 33 when they got married according torecords.They were married at the No. Benson Bapt. Ch. They were onlymarried for 8 yrs. and in that short time , both sons died and alsoAlbert sometime in between the children. Albertia died from the bite of arabid dog, but don't know the reason for Edwin & Albert's deaths.

Albert, Alice, Albertia, and Edwin Shackelford are all buried in theFranklin Co. Cemetery of North Benson Baptist Church, founded in 1825, at1005 Devils Hollow Rd.(4 miles past Choateville). Sits in a valley.Photos included in Shackelford Bk/Binder of stones. Tombstone next toAlbert's and the boys says Alice P. Duvall wife of A.A. Duvall. Initial'P' is wrong but this is Alice who married Alonzo A. Duvall aft Albertand boys died.

Franklin Co., Ky. Cemeteries Book reads: Edwin Elmo Shackelford , sonof A.D. & A.J. Sheets.
CORRECTION: Edwin's tombstone reads: son of A.D. & A.J. Shackelford. Thisis another clue that Alice J. Crutcher(and her siblings) were raised byGranville Sheets and her name changed from Crutcher to Sheets on thecensus above with him & family. Must have taken surname Crutcher backwhen married Albert.7

Mrs. Alonzo Duvall
Author: Beulah Franks Date: 20 Apr 1999 12:00 PM GMT
Surnames: DUVALL, SMITH
Classification: Obituary

A search for Mrs. Alonzo Duvall, 67, who lived on the Bald Knob Pike, near this city, ended yesterday afternoon when her husband and Mrs. Elbert Smith found her dead body hanging to a rope in a barn near the house. A note was found in the bedroom later in the day written by Mrs. Duvall, in which she stated that the cause of her act was ill health. Mr.Duvall had been employed in the lower end of the county several days a tcarpenter work. He had not been at home. He returned yesterday and found the doors of the house open and his wife absent. She did not respond to his calls for her, so he visited the homes of several neighbors in search of her, but she could not be found. Mrs. Elbert Smith, a neighbor, is an intimate friend. She returned to the house with Mr. Duvall and together they searched the place, and found the body of Mrs. Duvall hanging to a rope in the barn. She had tied the rope to a rafter and then around her neck. She stepped from the chair and the rope tightened around her neck and she choked to death. She evidently died without a struggle. Her clothing caught to the chair as she stepped from it, and had there been a struggle she would undoubtedly have upset the chair. She is believed to have been dead several days, as she had not been seen by any of the neighbors for at least three days. Returning to the house, Mr. Duvall found the note on the bureau in the bedroom. She had written that she intended to take her life, as her health was bad and she had no hope of recovery. After the funeral, the body was taken to North Benson Baptist Church and buried in the graveyard near by.
