| Note-Shackelford | William Heppard From DAR Records: William began serving in 1777 as a volunteer soldier for 6 months in NewJersey in the sompany of Benjamin Hartley to prevent the British fromcrossing the river from Philadelphia. He was taken prisoner. After hisrelease he was drafted in 1778 as a militiaman and private soldier underthe command of Colonel Clark. In 1780 he served as a drafted militiamanand private soldier under Colonel Roberts. Heppard, William Ky Shelby Co. 263 1830 Heppard, William Ky. Shelby Co. 000 1835 Pension Roll Record in his Bible: 'I was living in the County of Gloucester when I entered service and continued to live there for several years adter (torn), then I moved to Culpep(torn) and remained there until about 1803 and then moved to Gerrard County, Kentucky, where I lived for some years and then moved to Franklin County, where I remained until about 4 years ago and then moved to Shelby County where I now live.' Pensioners of the Military list a Pvt. Wm. Heppard of the N.J.Militia given $40 at age 73.(This is Taylor's grandfather.) Pension application: Shelby Co., Kentucky. Marcy 27, 1833 - #S15370 - William Heppard: William Heppad, Resident of Shelby Co., Ky., aged 72 years, declared on his oath he entered service in August 1777 as private volunteer in the Company of Captain Benj. Hartly under Colonel Head. That he was at that time of Gloucester Co., NJ., served at Haddonfield and Cooper's Creek,was taken prisoner by the British and put in prison near Philadelphia where he was kept for some time, then released and sent home. In June 1778 he was drafted into the Militia for a tour of 3 months with Colonel Clark, and was at the battle of Monmouth Court house. In 1780 he served as a drafted Militiaman and private soldier under Colonel Roberts. ----------------------------------------- The 1829-30 Tax List for the South Dist. of Franklin Co. shows a ThomasHeppard only. He filed for a pension in Shelby Co.,Ky. I have a note he was 73, and it was for $40.00. He was a pensioner under the act of June 7, 1832 which began March 4,1831. William Heppard's death and estate settlements are recorded in Shelb yCo.,Ky Court Records 1835. I have seen these records, but do not have sopies at this time. Mentioned in part of his estate settlements are these names: William Wilmoth,Sealy Miles, Davidson, Milton Tracy, Edward & Joseph Rogers, William H. Constantine, William Duke, David Scott, David Montford, Richard Radford, I Downing, William Bohannon, David Sealls(believe Scott), G. In the 1920 Ky.Soundex there was an Albert Hedges living in Jeff. Co. wht. and 39 yrs.old which would make him born in 1881. He was living alone.
