| Note-Utley | James Walker Hunter ADAIR COUPLE WED FIFTY YEARS) Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Hunter by James M. Carselowey Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Hunter celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Sunday at the family home in Adair. Nine of the Hunter children were present for alarge family dinner, along with 22 grandchildren and one great grandchild. In the afternoon open house was held and many of their friends and neighbors gathered to wish them well and congratulate them on their happy occasion. Atthe afternoon gathering, Brother Theodore Hamill, long time residents of Adair, offered prayer, followed by music and singing. The guests were treated with refreshments. The Hunter children gave their parents a new electric refrigerator for their anniversary. The Hunters are pioneers of the great southwest,living at a time when America was growing and developing in to the leading nation of the time. They have lived to see the raw prairies turn into rich oilfields, farm and ranches, and to see the many large cities of the southwest develop from small villages of the early days. The great southwest has a wealth of historical lore, which is best appreciated by our pioneers who were actually here to witness its making. The Hunters might be called Texans, as Mrs. Hunter was born there, while Mr. Hunter was born in Tennessee, going to Arkansas for five years, and at the age of 7 settling in Richland, Texas, wherehe grew to manhood. He was born in Lincoln, Tennessee in 1875. Ollie Swink was born in Wortham, Texas in 1882. The first meeting of James Hunter and OllieSwink was at a little country church deep in the heart of Texas, known as the Black church house, in 1899. Here romance blossomed and the couple were wedon November 8, 1899. To this union ten children were born, nine children areliving and were present for the anniversary. James Hunter was up town (Adair) Saturday afternoon with nine grandchildren in tow (there were more at home). It was, no doubt, quite an afternoon for grandpa. Most of the family's life was spent in Texas, however they moved to Adair about 10 years ago, and are now comfortably located in their home in the southwest part of Adair. The Hunter children who were present at the anniversary were: G. E. Hunter, Pampa,Texas; Mrs. J. T. Ross, Cheyenne, Okla; Mrs. A. L. Morrison, Grimes, Okla;G. T. Hunter, Elk City, Okla; A. L. Hunter, Catoosa, Okla; Hoy Hunter, Crawford, Okla; Hall Hunter, Adair; Mrs. Norman Jackson, Adair; and Mrs. LutherLondagin, Gravette, Arkansas. Mr. and Mrs. Hunter are both active and enjoying good health. We salute and congratulate these fine pioneers for their splendid family and to the part they had, along with our other early day settlers, in making this country great.
