Note Luke and Martha applied for a marriage license and a marriage bond at South Boston, County Seat of Halifax County, VA. On the application it was stated Luke Wade was of Charlotte County, VA. Luke in his later years lived in Botetourt County, VA., on his plantation called "The Loop". The plantation was 250 acres of land located on the loop of Craigs Creek, 13 miles northwest of the courthouse at Fincastle. Fincastle is the county seat of Botetourt County. Luke died in 1843. When Luke died he owned 18 slaves. According to Luke's will Martha (Patsy) was to live on the plantation until her death. Luke Wade's Will
I, Luke Wade of the County of Botetourt and State of Virginia do make this my last will and testament in manner and form following, that is to say: First: I desire that all my just debts and funeral expenses be paid, and for this purpose my executor hereinafter named is directed to sell my perishable property and such other portion of my estate as may be necessary for that purpose. Second: After the payment of my debts and funeral expenses, I give to my wife Patsy for and during the term of her natural life the following slaves viz: Jack Daw, Mary and her child George and her future increase, and Tabby, two beds and furniture, two cows and calves, one horse, two sows and shoats, one half dozen sheep, one half of my tract ofland call "The Loop" and the pawpaw bottom with the priviledge of firewood and rail timbers - to have the same during her natural life, and at her death to be equally divided between Polly Tucker and the wife and children of Beverly Wade under the restrictions her inafter imposed in this my will - I also give to my said wife Patsy my slave Mary's child George in fee simple and forever, to dispose of at her death as she may think proper. Third: To my grandson Thomas Jefferson Wade, I give a negro girl named Susan to him and his heirs forever. Fourth: To my daughter Polly Tucker and her heirs I give one half of my estate, including the reversionary interest devised to her in the second item above written, to her and her heirs forever, and it is my will and desire that her husban shall not control or derive any benefit whatever from the estate hereby deivsed to her, it is my will, and I do hereby direct tahtthe same be vested in my fried Michael Rettinger who is to hold the same as trustee for her exclusive benefit. Fifth: To the wife, children of my son Beverly Wade and their heirs, I give the other half of my estate real and personal including the reversionary interest above devised to them, and also including a slave named Edmund, to them and their heirs forever. And it is my will that the estate hereby devised to them shall be managed and controled by fried Joseph Hannah as trustee for their sole benefit and advantage and further, as it regards that portion of my estate devised to the wife and children of my son Beverly, it is my will that any time when in his judgement and discretion he sall deam it expedient, he sall sell the whole or any part thereof and vest the proceeds either in lands or other estate as shall be most likely to promote the interest and advantage of said devisees. Sixth: I appoint my friends Josph Hannah and Philip Crist executors of this my last will and testament. And it is my will and desire that my said Executors be vested with power and authority and not with standing the devises her in before contained, they are hereby authorized and impowered. After the decease of my wife in their judgement and discretion, it shall be deemed most advisable to sell and convey my real estate and divide the proceeds between my daughter Polly Tucker and the wife and children of my said son Beverly Wade, so as to give my said daughter Polly the one half and the wife and cheldren of my said son Beverly the other. In testamony where of I have here to set my hand and affixed my seal this 12th day of April 1843.

I, Martha Wade, widow and relict of Luke Wade, dec. of the county of Botetourt and State of Virginia, Do make this my last will and testament in manner and form following, to wit:
First: I give to Thomas J. W. Tucker my negro boy George, to him and his heirs forever, and it is my will and desire said George remain with him and his father Luke W. Tucker until said George is sixteen years old, provided said Tucker has a permanent residence in this commonwealth. It is then to be left to the discretion of my Executor whether said boy sall remain longer or not. And further if my Executor shall deem fit and proper to let said boy George remain with the said Luke W. Tucker until said Thomas J. W. Tucker shall attain the age of twenty one years. He has the power to do so, But if in his opinion the best interest of said Thomas J. W. Tucker will be promoted thereby he can hire out said boy George for the benefit of said Thomas J. W. Tucker until the said Thomas J. W. Tucker attains the age of twenty one years. Secondly: I give to my grandson Luke W. Tucker one clay bank mare, one bed and bedding, one cow, one large McCormick plough, and one wheat fan. Thirdly: I appoint my friend Joseph Hannah, Executor of this my last will and testament. In testimony where of I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this 23rd day of June 1848.
