Stephen and Catherine probably moved to Green County around 15 June 1818, when Stephen purchased from William Lile for $600, 100 acres of "land on the north side of Green River and south side of Pitman Creek, it being part of 1500 acre survey patented to George May and John Abney." The land was bordered by the tracts of Ebenezer Titus, William Skaggs, John Wells and Pitman Creek. Stephen is shown heading a household in Green County i the 1820 census (#57) with his surname spelled "Waid".

Green County, Kentucky, Circuit Court #5887
On 31 August 1820, Stephen filed suit against William Lile and James Shields concerning title to the property.
Following is Barbara Wright's abstract of the pleadings and testimony:
Stephen Wade states that on 15 June 1818, he purchased 100 acres in Green County from William Lile. He received a bond from Lile. He gave Lile a note for $100 for part pay. Lile assigned the note to James Shields who has brought suit and obtained judgment against Wade. Lile fraudulently represented himself as owner of the land with a title to it. Wade now finds there is no title. Lile is insolvent. Wade wants Lile before the court and to present the title.
Stephen Wade and Allen Montgomery are bound to James Shields in the sum of $200 dated 16 September 1820. It is for an injunction staying further proceedings on a judgment obtained during the last term of court in favor of James Shields as assignee of William Liles for $100 against Wade.
Deposition of Silas Burks (18 February, 1822): He has heretofore understood in conversation with Wade and Lile that Lile has sold to Wade a part of a tract of land claimed by Abney and May. Wade executed a note to Lile. The note was assigned to Shields and a suit was brought. Sometime afterward, Burks saw Lile going towards Wade and give Wade, Benjamin Fisher's bond for a part or the whole of the land sold by said Lile to Wade. The bond obligated Fisher to convey his rights in the land to Wade. Wade observed it was not all or enough. Lile remarked it was more than ever he had received of him. Wade, after studying awhile, observed he believed he would take it anyhow and he did take it. Wade received a bond from Fisher. James Shields states that he traded for the bond and gave a valuable consideration for it. He denies all fraud.
Deposition of Samuel Brents (16 August 1822): He has filed the papers in the suit of William Lile and witnessed by Philip Wells and Samuel Wells dated 15 June 1818. It binds Lile to convey to Wade 100 acres beginning at Ebenezer Titus's line. Brents has bean acquainted with the land. The original survey was made to John Abney and the patent issued to Abney and George May. The land is included in what is call Abney's upper 1500 acre survey. John K. Abney, who now lives on the 1500 acres, claimed both the tracts under the will of his father. Brents attended to the decree in Green County and both tracts were deeded to John K. Abney many years ago. On 14 February 1820, John K. Abney conveyed the upper tract to Brents and it is recorded in Green County. Brents sold and conveyed to Dr. Nimrod H. Arnold 3/7 of a considerable body of land including the Narrows of Pitman Creek and including most of the said 100 acres described in the bond from Lile to Wade. The other 4/7 Benjamin Fisher was entitled to under an agreement with Fisher and Brents, and Brents conveyed it to fisher. Brents was present when Fisher sold to Dr. N. H. Arnold. Brents was in Greensburg near the market house and saw a bond from Fisher to Wade for a small part of the land. It was the same land Fisher sold to Arnold. The bond sold by Fisher and myself to Arnold is now in the possession of Dr. Arnold who has a mill thereon at the narrows of Pitman Creek.
Deposition of Philip Wells (16 August 1822): He states that on 15 June 1818, he witnessed a bond from William Lile to Stephen Wade filed among the papers of this suit for 100 acres called Abney's upper survey. It lies adjoining below the Narrows of Pitman Creek, but he cannot tell if it would include the Narrows without a survey. Wells did not understand from Wade and Lile that it included the Narrows. The 100 acres would not go up to the Narrows.
Lile failed to appear in court. It was decreed that the contract between Lile and Wade was to be annulled.
Six years later on 9 March 1826, Stephen Wade sold to William Lisle (possibly the William Lile of the lawsuit) for $2,000, 10 acres of land on Pitman Creek next to William Pitman's land. The deed describes borders that cross the creek, so perhaps the land contained or was suitable for a mill, and that is why it was so valuable. Curiously, Catherine did not sign the deed to relinquish her dower rights.

Stephen Wade died sometime in 1828, leaving Catherine to raise their seven children.1

OBADIAH J. WADE was born in Virginia March 25, 1814, one of nine children born to Richard and Rhoda (Harler) [Harlow] Wade. Richard Wade was a farmer by occupation, a reed maker by trade and a soldier in the war of 1812. Our subject learned to read at Sabbath school, walking five miles every Sunday to attend the same. He worked on his father's farm till twenty-one years of age, and then went to Augusta County, W. Va., and worked out by the day, month, or year. January 28, 1837, he married Caroline Holt, who was born in Augusta County, September 26, 1814. Their children number nine, as follows: Mary J., now Mrs. Chockley; John S; Elizabeth A., now Mrs. Crockston [Croxton]; William I., James A., Francis A., Richard W., Augusta V. (now Mrs. Leigh), and Charles W. In the fall of 1841, Mr. Wade moved with his wife and family to Thorn Creek Township, this county, where he remained till the spring of 1848, when he moved to this township [Smith]. Here he bought forty acres of unimproved land, built a log house, and cleared up his farm, which he has since increased to 293 acres. Mr. Wade served as Township Trustee under the old constitution, and he and wife have for many years been members of the M.E. Church.
It has been reported that on or about November 3, 1889, Obadiah was struck by a Wabash (Vandalia) railroad train and died on that date.
His wife, Caroline, after his death moved to Mishawaka to live with her son, Rev. Charles Wade, pastor of the Free Methodist Church. "Grandma Wade", as she was known by in Smith Twp. and the town of Collins, both in Whitley Co., died at 6:30 AM Sunday, August 6, 1907 at the age of 92 yrs. 10 mos. 25 days.
Both Obadiah and Caroline Wade are buried in the Blue River Cemetery, 300 N. 350 E. (Riley Rd.) in Whitley Co. Caroline Wade's mother, Mrs. Caroline Holt, who died June 6, 1873 at the age of 80 is also buried there.
