Sadie Wade was born in Garfield, October 26, 1875 on a donation land claim which is now designated by the State of Oregon as a Century Farm. She was the last of ten children born to John W. and Sarah (Pierce) Palmateer [she was the last to die]. With the exception of a few years spent in Eastern Oregon she has been a resident of the Estacada area where she made a host of friends. Mrs. Wade passed away Friday, December 8, 1972 at the age of 97 at the Heritage Convalescent Center, near Gresham. Sadie is survived by two sons, Ralph M. and Merle V. Wade, Estacada. Her husband, Wilbur, and a daughter, Echo Halferty, preceded her in death. Grandma Sadie was special to her six granchildren, Alice Moeller, Seaside; Wade Halferty, Mystic, Connecticut; Frances Snyder, Bremerton; Ann Fish, Portland; Wayne Wade, Salem; and Florence Linklater, Salem. In addition to these grandchildren there are 16 great grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. The Wade's were married January 28, 1897 in Oregon City at the home of T. L. Jones the "Circuit Rider". They stood by his bedside for the ceremony due to the illness of Mr. Jones. The Wades quietly observed their 60th anniversary 2 days prior to Wilbur's death in 1957. - - Mrs. Wade was a member of Centennial Rebekah Lodge No. 147, the Garfield Grange, No. 317, the Past Noble Grands Club, Currinsville Ladies Aid and was a life member of the Estacada United Methodist Church. Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 12, 1972 at - Estacada. Interment was in the Wade Memorial Cemetery, Estacada. - - [Clackamas County News, Estacada] [The day of Grandma Sadie's funeral was a very bad day with ice and snow and we were advised to not try to make it to the service.].1 |

She was the daughter of Wilbur and Sadie Wade and as a youngster moved to Eastern Oregon with her parents but later grew to womanhood in the Currinsville community where she finished her basic education and then graduated with the class of 1916 of the Estacada High School. - - In 1919 she married Frank J. Halferty and to this union 5 children were born of which 4 are living. Robert having passed away 4 years ago at the age of 16. The Halfertys lived in eastern Oregon for several years but more recently have been in the valley or near the coast at Warrenton which was their present home. Tho in failing health for a number of years Mrs. Halferty was always hopeful that she would gain and thus be able to enjoy a normal life again for she loved her family and enjoyed the many friends made wherever she lived. Death came early Monday morning, August 26th at the Portland Open Air Sanitarium where she had been a patient for the past 10 days. She is survived by her husband Frank of Warrenton; three daughters - Mrs. Alice Moeller and Mrs. Frances Snyder both of Portland and Miss Lois Ann Halferty at home. One son Jack of the U. S. Navy was taken off a submarine on the Atlantic ocean in order that he might fly home in time to reach his mother. Also surviving are her parents Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Wade and two brothers, Ralph and Merle all of Estacada. There are three grandchildren - Colleen Ann and the twins, Verna Lee and Vernon Wade Moeller. - - Interment was in the Estacada Oddfellow cemetery. - - [Unidentified newspaper clipping - looks like the Clackamas County News, Estacada].1 |
