William Caldwell and Simon Girty enlisted several hundredIndians to attack the early settlers living in Kentucky. One attack wasat Bryan’s Station on 16 Aug. 1782. They attempted to burn the fort downby shooting flaming arrows on the roof. A man and two boys from insidethe station climbed up on the roof and tore off the burning shingles. Theman was shot in the head and killed. That man was Frederick Mitchell. Oneof the boys was his son Michael. Michael would have been about seven.
