Pneumonia proves fatal to Jesse C Cook, well known horseman

Jesse C. Cook, prominent horseman of this county, died last Thursday evening at 7:30 o’clock at the King’s Daughters Hospital of pneumonia, which developed as the result of injuries to his chest when he was kicked by one of his horses at the Fair Grounds the previous Friday. His death was unexpected as his condition did not take an alarming turn until the day before the end.

Mr. Cook was forty-nine years of age and a bachelor. He was born and reared in this county and had been engaged in the horse business practically all his life. For a number of years Mr. Cook had made a specialty of educating saddle horses which he exhibited at Madison Square Garden, New York, Boston, and other Eastern Horse Shows with marked success. His gift for developing almost human intelligence in the animals was remarkable and he had a familiar figure at the fairs throughout Kentucky and national horse shows for the past twenty-five years.

Mr. Cook is survived by one sister, Mrs. Frank Lewis, of Frankfort, and two brothers, Charles L. Cook, of this county, and Price Cook, of Frankfort.

Funeral services were conducted at the Chapel in Grove Hill cemetery Friday afternoon at 4 o’clock by the Rev. R. C. Goldsmith, pastor of the Baptist church. The interment followed in Grove Hill.
