John R. Martin was born ca 1804-1805 in Georgia and married Lucinda Skinner February 6, 1825 in Putnam County, GA. Lucinda was born ca 1810-1811 in Georgia. This family was in Newton County, GA, for the 1830 census, in Coosa County, AL, for the 1840, 1850 and 1860 censuses and had at least 8 children, 3 boys and 5 girls. Since their first 4 children (through son William born ca 1834-1835) were born in Georgia and the last 4 children (beginning with son Asa Thomas, born ca 1836-1837) were born in Alabama, we can place this family's move to Alabama as occuring sometime between 1834 and 1837.
One of their sons, John D. Martin, and his wife Louisa (Epsie) Glenn (they married Sept. 22, 1850 in Coosa County), together with a daughter, Sophronia, (born June 14, 1853 - died Jan. 17, 1924) are buried at County Line Cemetery in Coosa County.
Asa Thomas Martin married Mary Mizzles, Dec. 17, 1856, in Coosa County, AL. and this couple had at least two children: William T. (or D.), born ca 1856-1857 and Matilda A., born ca 1858-1859. Since I have found no census record for this couple after 1860, Asa Thomas may have died in the Civil War.1 |
