| Note-Shackelford | Humphrey Pope AN ANCESTOR OF THIS HUMPHREY POPE'S ? In John Camden Hotten's book is a list of people's names that are foundin the London Archives. Under the List of Sir Will: (Booth's List of Prisoners sent toBarbados) is the name Humphrey Pope of Tanton. A few pages later are Lists of 77 Convicted Rebels who came from Englandon the John Friggat of Bristol. It lists Master John Buson and under him is the name Humphrey Pope Humphrey Pope is mentioned twice and in both cases he is listed as aconvicted rebel. There appears to be no specific date re Humphries entryinto the Colony of Virginia. This tells me that Humphrey Pope was in oneof those uprisings against the King and then he was taken out or prisonand punished by being sent to Barbados and then on to VA. | Note-Shackelford | Jane Gale Pope I found your genealogy on Ancestry and wanted to correct an entry that has been made many times by many different researchers. Jane Gale Pope and Robert Terrill had 4 children: Thomas, Polly, John and Robert. Elizabeth was not a daughter, she was a granddaughter, the daughter of Robert Terrill and Nancy Herring. The misunderstanding comes because Elizabeth was mentioned in the settlement of the estate of Thomas Pope and his wife, Ann Duncan. I believe the settlement calls them 'grandchildren' and because Elizabeth's father, Robert, had died, she got his share but she is still mentioned as a grandchild, Elizabeth Pollard. Elizabeth Terrill, daughter of Robert Terrill and Nancy Herring, married James Thompson Pollard, son of Granville Pollard and Elizabeth Thompson. Elizabeth was my 3rd gr grandmother and I am positive that she was not the daughter of Jane Gale Pope.
