Biography The parents of Samuel Miles are shown here as Evan Miles and Mary Lewis. However, this is unproven. It came from the work of Samuel Robert Miles who stated "For many years it has been tradition of our branch of the Miles family, that the first one in the country was Samuel Miles (abt 1730,40 - 1811) who landed in Baltimore ................." It goes on to say, "Several other genealogists who have worked on the family history have a somewhat different belief as to the beginning of family in this country. They maintain the first one of our ancestors in this country was a Richard Miles............ This Richard had a son Evan and Evan had several children, among whom it is believed was our Samuel Miles.36
